To fix cracking walls in your bathroom follow these steps:
1. **Prepare the Surface**: Scrape off any loose paint and sand the area lightly to create a smooth surface for the new paint to adhere to.
2. **Prime the Walls**: Use a high-quality primer, Zinnser Cover Stain will work great. This will ensure proper adhesion of the new paint and prevent further cracking.
3. **Apply Joint Compound**: For larger cracks, fill them with joint compound using a putty knife or broad drywall knife. Smooth it out evenly and let it dry completely before proceeding.
4. **Sand the Compound**: Once the joint compound is dry, sand it smooth to blend it with the rest of the wall surface. Texture if needed.
5. **Repaint with Semi-Gloss**: Finally, apply a coat of primer over any patched areas (where the joint compound was applied) then apply the semi-gloss paint to the walls. Semi-gloss paint is more resistant to moisture and humidity in a bathroom, making it ideal for this environment. Apply the paint evenly and allow it to dry completely between coats.
