New oak cabinets, want to keep them light. So what type of stain or vanish or what would I use?

We moved into our home 3 years ago, and was told that the basement was “newly painted”. Over the last year we noticed that there was a little mold on one of the walls which we treated. Now my daughter has moved into the basement and wanted to repaint. Problem

We had new dry wall put on and after we primed it there was dark streaks in different areas on the ceiling. Repriming didn’t help. Can you please help with this?
