What type of wood is the door? There are some wood types that are dark to begin with. But if what you are seeing if a reaction with a paint stripper then try a light sanding to see if this will bring up some new lighter wood. If not then you could use a wood bleach or brightener. Be careful with these chemicals, they can burn the skin and cause damage to the wood.
