Try a clear coat of sanding sealer…
Any wood finish will darken or change the color, just like wetting the wood with water. You will have the best luck with the acrylic urethane. Oil based finishes add an amber color plus darken the wood.
A possible solution is wax worth a try on a sample piece of wood.
