What brand of paint?
I would say another coat is needed. You are probably right on with it being primer 1st then top coat 2nd, so only one coat of actual paint was applied. Not that the primer is not a great 1st coat. But with walls as old as that and dingy then I would say you are right on with your thoughts.
Aura matte was used, in the original question. This is Benjamin Moore's top of the line interior paint. This stuff is very expensive. Last time I checked, over a year ago, my price was close to $80 a gallon.
This stuff isn’t easy to use, personal experience. It could be an application problem. But considering the cost of this stuff Adam might be on to something.
Call the Benjamin store and talk to the sales person about the problem. There should be a printed label on the can that shows the store info along with the color formula.
