  1. Unopened…New… 2-3 years…

    Opened… and Covered… 6 mo – 1 yr

But Oil base products after opening, will "skin up" in the can… and you'll need to cut off and remove the skin… sometimes adding a few drops of paint thinner onto the top surface before covering, will delay skinning…

  2. The shelf life of a can of primer can vary depending on factors such as the type of primer, storage conditions, and whether the can has been opened. In general, unopened cans of quality primer stored in a cool, dry place can last for up to 1-2 years. Once opened, the primer’s shelf life is typically shorter, usually around 6 months to 1 year. It’s important to check the manufacturer’s guidelines for specific recommendations on the shelf life of the primer you are using. Signs that a can of primer may have gone bad include a thickened consistency, foul odor, or separation of ingredients. Using old or expired primer can lead to poor adhesion, uneven finish, and overall unsatisfactory results. Proper storage and regular inspection of your primer cans can help ensure that you achieve the best possible outcomes in your painting projects.
