Can I mix my water based primer into my water based eggshell finish interior paint to lighten the color?

  1. I guess you can, only it might affect the sheen (making the paint more matte).

I don't know about durability. If you want to be 100% sure, in terms of durability, you might save the primer for another job, and buy an extra tin of eggshell finish white…

  2. Mixing water-based primer into water-based eggshell finish interior paint to lighten the color is not recommended. Primers are formulated differently from paints and are meant to provide a smooth, uniform surface for paint to adhere to, rather than for altering color. Mixing the two can affect the paint’s adhesion, durability, and overall performance. Instead, to lighten the paint color, it is advisable to consult with a professional at a paint store to get a custom color mix or to purchase a lighter shade of the same paint line. It is important to follow manufacturer guidelines and recommendations to ensure the best results and maintain the integrity of the paint finish.
