Bidding to paint ceramic tile.

I am bidding a job to paint ceramic tiled bathrooms. I am bidding by the square foot. Should I add extra for labor for having to primer the walls?

  1. You need to charge or at least take the priming into consideration. If you think you are more competitive with a cheaper price than you can eat the priming. It all depends on how much you want to make for your labor after purchasing all materials. I would automatically charge for the priming as this is a necessary step.

  2. It is advisable to factor in the extra material and labor required for priming the walls. Priming is a crucial step in the painting process, especially when dealing with ceramic tile surfaces which can be challenging to paint directly onto due to their smooth and non-porous nature.

Considering the additional time and materials involved in priming the walls, it is reasonable to incorporate an extra cost for labor when preparing your bid. Aldo include any preparation needed, such as cleaning and sanding the tile to increase adhesion.

When calculating the total cost for the project, you can either include the cost of priming as a separate line item in your bid or factor it into your square footage pricing. By transparently outlining the cost of priming, you can clearly communicate the value of your services to the client and ensure that you are adequately compensated for the additional labor and materials required.
