What we have been able to use is a mixture created with latex varnish and latex paint. Using a gallon of varnish, pour out a quart and add a quart of appropriately color latex semigloss paint. Apply this mix to the walls being careful to not leave any stop/start marks from bottom to top. After you achieve the desired color, allow an over night dry and then varnish using the quart you removed at the beginning.
