Counter top cork board, should I stain it or leave it alone?

share

I am purchasing a brand new home and underneath the counter tops is cork board. The home inspector gave me the tip of using a stain to block out moisture from the dish washer and overflow of the sink from getting to the cork board. Is this the best idea? If it is, what type of stain would I use?

  1. I would leave this alone. I don't think a stain would do much to protect the cork board plus I don't think it needs protecting, cork is already waterproof.
