I have white oil based painted cabinets that I want to antique. Is there a good technique?

What tool is used to apply a mud swirl pattern to a ceiling? The trowel swirl is obviously done with a trowel, but what about the mud swirl? We are repairing a ceiling and it has circle swirls with stalactites (pulled down points).

We primed our ceiling with Bin oil based primer and then pained two coats of ceiling paint over it. There were a lot of roller marks on the ceiling when we primed it but thought the paint would cover over them. Unfortunately that did not happen and now you can
