Latex over oil. How to handle payment?

share

We have almost finished a huge rennovation. We hired a contractor who hired a painting crew and they painted all the trim, windows and doors latex over oil. Now, all you have to do is run your fingernail on it and you can make it chip. Also put blue tape on areas that needed touching up and when we pulled the tape off the paint came off also.

What I want to know is how to deal with this money-wise?? Do I make sure the contractor gets the painter to get it right before I pay for it?? Frankly, I’d like to use different painters to fix the problem because these guys were so sloppy and did very little prep work. Any advice?

  1. Write down everything wrong, be specific with conditions and locations. Give this to the general contractor that is looking after the whole job. Dave is correct- Don't pay until everything meets your expectations!
