How do I prep old sheetrock for painting?

share

When I removed the bathroom wallpaper, some of the sheetrock paper peeled off and left loose edges of sheetrock paper. Do I use compound to cover these areas? Do I use primer? Do I peel more off to smooth the area? Help!

  1. You use Spackle to smooth out the edges, after you scrape them down to a firm edge… then you prime all with a Pigmented Shellac Sealer Primer, then top coat with an acrylic semi gloss product… and to tighten up the stipple, after you roll out the surfaces, wait a few minutes then double roll all with a dryer roller (ie the same roller but don't add much more paint to it)… this will give a nicer finish… BUT as always don't expect a perfect job… even pros only look for 95% perfection… Good Luck!
