How to prepare wall for paint after removing wallpaper?
Stripping Wallpaper in Preparation for Painting
It depends on the condition of the wall after the paper is removed. After removing wallpaper, the next step before painting is to thoroughly clean the walls to remove any remaining glue residue, dust, and debris. This can be done by using warm soapy water and a sponge or cloth to wipe down the walls, followed by a rinse with clean water. Allow the walls to dry completely before proceeding with any additional preparation. It is also important to inspect the walls for any cracks, holes, or imperfections that may need to be patched up and sanded smooth before applying primer and paint. Additionally, applying a coat of primer to the walls will help ensure an even paint color and adhesion, especially if the walls were previously covered with wallpaper.
There is an odorless oil-based Zinsser that works amazing.
Using oil base primer also activates the glue. The trick when using latex is to roll the primer on with one pass, then let dry. Apply a second coat because now the glue has set with the primer.
