Hairline cracks all over walls after painting kitchen.

share

I had my kitchen painted twice in the last 12 months due to small hairline cracks appearing throughout the kitchen walls. I used a good quality paint and it was also painted by professionals. They said they never seen this happen before. My house is only 10 years old. If you look closely at the cracks you can actually see the original paint color that was used 10 years ago (terracotta color). I would like to repaint again but how do I avoid this happening again.

  1. This could be caused by surface contamination or paint incompatibility. Soap residue and grease can cause problems like this. The only way to deal with this is to prime before painting. Using a tinted shellac primer, Zinsser B-I-N, should take care of it. An alternitive primer is Kilz or Zinsser Cover Stain. The stinky primers will do a good job.

Consider applying 2 coats of primer. the first coat could lift some contamination. The second coat will assure that the walls are properly sealed.
