Sap bleeding thru deck oil based stain.

share

I had my 1 yr old treated lumber deck stained with oil based stain 2 months ago–Sap is bubbling through the boards and the stain looks horrible. It was 90 degrees when they did it. How can I repair.

  1. The best way to repair is to sand off the stain and restain, preferably not on a hot day. You could try wiping the sappy areas with paint thinner and rags and restain the affected boards. This could work but you might have to restain the entire deck for an even color.

The sap problem could come back as the lumber is still fairly new.
