Can I sand a spot after the first coat of paint?

share

A couple of spots were missed getting sanded before the first coat of paint went on. Now I can see the spot. Can I lightly sand the spot and apply the second coat of paint?

  1. Yes, you can lightly sand the missed spots before applying the second coat of paint. Use fine-grit sandpaper to smooth out the surface, being careful not to sand too aggressively as it may damage the underlying layers. After sanding, wipe away any dust and debris before applying the second coat of paint.

It’s important to ensure that the surface is clean and dry before painting to prevent any imperfections from showing through. An alternative it to skim over the area with a patching compound, spackling paste or whatever you want to use, and sand that back to a smooth surface. This might work but it depends on your situation.
