Should the wall edge of coving be the same colour as the wall or should it be the same colour as the ceiling? Having put up coving around a lounge I am debating how I should paint it.

On a new build I am working on the skirts and door arcs are MDF and come ready primed. But after a further undercoat and two gloss coats the finish is poor compared to wood skirts and arcs I have done in the past. I also used fine grade paper

Is it good practice to paint spindles, fillets, and handrails prior to painting? A friend is replacing his stair handrails, spindles, fillets and guides. It seems a good idea to paint them prior to fitting, am I right?
