Solid stain (color redwood) would like to go brown.

share

Our house is a cedar home and is solid stain color redwood. Would like to go dark brown. Would we need to strip or would the dark brown cover the red? We were told it has not been sealed or stained in over 10 years.. its pretty dry

  1. The advantage of using solid color stains is the old color does not affect a change of color.

Applying a new color and using 2 coats should produce satisfactory results. Provided you do not put on too thin of a coat during either coat. Visit your local paint dealer for their recommendations.
