The cabinet frames or boxes are refinished by hand. The same basic process is used.
I prefer the cabinets to be emptied before the washing and sanding. Usually just a light hand sanding with a sanding sponge is enough then a good wipe down with a liquid sander/deglosser, I like Paso. The staining and finishing is all done with a brush.
